United Nations Small Arms Review Conference
26 June - 7 July 2006

The UN Review Conference began with progressive statements from a number of high-level representatives including the EU, UK, Norway and Canada.

The Million Faces petition was presented to Kofi Annan by the 'Millioneth' Face, Julius Arile from Kenya, as well as the international directors of Amnesty, IANSA and Oxfam. Included in these faces were the over 10,000 Canadian faces that were delivered to the Canadian government at a June 7th event. Over 2400 of these pictures were gathered by the extended Ploughshares network — for a listing of some of the small arms community events that were held across Canada, click here.

Ploughshares staff were active at the conference with Ken Epps being an NGO member of the Canadian Delegation and Lynne Griffiths-Fulton representing Ploughshares and the Small Arms Working Group of the Canadian Peacebuilding Coordinating Committee. Lynne was quoted in a Toronto Star article on small arms and provides an assessment of the conference in the following article:
