Who
we are
Program
Our peacemaking and peacebuilding initiatives are
organized under four themes which flow from the call to pursue peace
and its application to contemporary peace and conflict issues and
problems. Our program focuses on the pursuit of policies and practices
designed to:
advance the elimination of nuclear weapons and
other weapons of mass destruction that are a threat to local and
global security (abolish),
progressively reduce the resort to military force
in response to political and social conflict (reduce),
advance controls on the supply of arms in order
to reduce the availability of the weapons that transform political
and social conflict into war and violence (control),
and
support positive measures to build conditions
of sustainable peace that enhance the security of people in their
homes and communities (build).
We work from a solid information base and our policy
development is carried out through processes of engagement, using
structured settings such as roundtables and meetings with churches,
NGOs, and policy-makers from various sectors, in Canada and internationally,
in which informed discussion and a broad range of views can be exchanged.
